Over the past few years the Northwood Conservation Commission has been working with Sarah and Emily Low to purchase 69.+/- acres located near First NH Turnpike as a permanent land conservation parcel for the Town of Northwood. The parcel is located within the Northwood Ridge Water District. It will protect a very important and sensitive area of the town adjacent to the water district wells which supply water for numerous residences, businesses and Northwood School. In addition, this area is known for its natural beauty and wildlife habitat for both small and large animals, and diverse bird population. This conservation area will be ideal for numerous outdoor activities including hiking, mountain biking, cross country skiing, and snowshoeing.
The purchase price was negotiated at $1,500. per acre for a total of $104,958.00, The land is to be purchased with funds from the Northwood Conservation Commission Land Fund. This fund is held by the town’s treasurer and accrues funds yearly from the Current Use Penalty fees. A hearing will be held at the town hall November 12 at 6:15pm and the conservation commission would appreciate any public input on the proposal. Maps of the parcel will be available and the commission will be present to answer questions or upon request, to hold a discussion on future use and goals of the parcel. |
