Present were Pat Adams, Donna Bunker, Ken Curley, Cable Coordinator Gary Garnett. Not present: Ken Witham, BOS liaison. The meeting was called to order at 6:35 p.m. The March 16, 2006 minutes were reviewed, amended and approved as amended. Old Business: Gary Garnett taped the "Historic Northwood: Past, Present, and Future" program on Wednesday, March 22. Northwood School Board meetings will be taped as soon as the equipment is in place. The Northwood Board of Selectmen meeting will be taped on May 9. Ken Curley read the letter from the Board of Selectmen denying the appointment of Lucy Edwards to the Cable Advisory Committee. New Business: Donna Bunker and Ken Curley attended the April 11 Board of Selectmen meeting and asked during the public comment session that the selectmen reconsider appointing Lucy Edwards to the Cable Advisory Committee. The Board of Selectmen would not reconsider their decision. Ken Curley submitted his letter of resignation and requested that the letter be appended in its entirety to the meeting minutes. He is willing to continue to serve as liaison to Lakes Region Public Access. Donna Bunker stated she is not able to serve as chair of the Cable Advisory Committee. Pat Adams will consider if she is able to serve as chair and will let the committee know at the next meeting. Gary Garnett presented a list of assorted equipment needed to tape meetings at the school. He will show staff at town hall how to use the equipment there on Monday, April 24. Gary gave the library a copy of the school district meeting on DVD. He is still editing the town meeting tape. Unfinished Business: Pat Adams and Donna Bunker will meet with the selectmen at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday, April 25, to discuss the Town of Northwood Cable Bulletin Board Policy. The committee will suggest that the committee itself rather than the town should adopt the policy. The next meeting will be held at the Chesley Memorial Library on Thursday, May 18, at 6:30 p.m. The meeting adjourned at 7:45 p.m. NOTE: The May meeting was cancelled due to insufficient number of members for a quorum. Minutes approved May 7, 2007. ATTACHMENT: Letter of Resignation – Ken Curley
April 20, 2006 Northwood Cable Advisory Committee Town of Northwood P.O. Box 478 Northwood, NH 03261-0478 Dear Committee Members, At the April 11th Northwood Board of Selectmen meeting, after reading the letter I sent requesting reconsideration of the name we submitted, the Selectmen refused to reconsider the appointment. As one person at that meeting pointed out, to refuse volunteers based on feelings and/or personal opinion goes against the Town of Northwood Volunteer Policy. The Board's misuse of the appointment process sends a chilling message to all current volunteers, the time and effort you have sacrificed in the past doesn't matter, what does matter is if you are popular with a majority of the Board. I have always felt that the only way for the Advisory Committee to succeed is to recruit and retain qualified and dedicated volunteers. Since the Committee can no longer do that I am submitting my resignation. I have enjoyed working with members of the Committee, past and present, and look forward to doing so again under different circumstances. Sincerely, Kenneth Curley |
