Story Time and Lapsit

Story Time and Lapsit have started up again!

Both Story Time and Lapsit began in late January. There is still space in both Story Time sessions, but at this time, Lapsit is full.  If you are interested in being placed on a waitlist for Lapsit call the library!  If we get enough interested participants, we will add another Lapsit program to the library schedule!

Registration is required for both of these programs, and space is limited, so register early!

Things I Know

by Turtle Wexler

1. Sam Westing is dead (I saw him lying dead on his four-poster bed. It sounded like he was whispering ?Purple, purple.?)
2. Westing chose sixteen heirs and divided us into teams of two.
3. The heir that solves Westing?s murder will inherit $200 million.
4. I am paired with Mrs. Flora Baumbach (I call her Baba).
5. Sam Westing gave each pair an envelope full of clues. Our clues are- SEA MOUNTAIN AM O
6. Theo Theodorakis deserves to be kicked in the shins!

No-Cook Snacks

Are you hungry when you come home from school? Do you like to cook? Do you like simple recipes where you do not need to wash a single pan?

Then the library has you covered!  During vacation week, the Chesley Memorial Library is offering a No-Cook Snack Program!

Wednesday February 21 at 4:30 pm the library will be cooking up a storm- without the stove!  We will make some healthy snacks that taste great!  We will be making a few different recipes, and you will get to take samples of each home- as well as the recipe itself.  One of the recipes we will try out is Fruit Salsa!

Since we are using kitchen utensils (including paring knives), we are requiring parental permission for this program.  We are also asking for a $5.00 (non-refundable) donation from each participant to help cover the cost of the materials.

If you are interested in this program, pick up a permission form at the Circulation Desk today!  Hurry- there are only 6 spaces in the program, so register fast!

Drop in Craft

Stop by the library on February 22, between 12:00 and 2:00 or 5:00 and 7:00 to make a fun craft!  This program is free and NO registration is required!  See you at the library!

Graphic Novel Night

There are no capes or tights in Avi?s graphic novel, City of Light, City of Dark, just a boy who dreams of an easier life for him and his mother.

Join us on February 28th at 7PM as we discuss City of Light, City of Dark and explore the graphic novel format.  Are graphic novels literature?  In which ways can a graphic novel tell a story that a traditional novel cannot?

Ages 8-12.  Registration is required.

Brown Bag Story

What is a Brown Bag Story?

It?s a story of 1,000 words (or less) that you write yourself featuring a list of words that we give you!  The stories can be silly, sad, or even a mystery!  The only requirement is that it MUST include each one of the five listed items.  All finished stories need to be at the library by February 24th at 1:00pm.

We will have two categories for this contest- ages 7-12 and ages 13-18.  Winners in each category will have their story published in the Library News and will also win a prize!

The five items you MUST feature in your story are:

-Johnny Depp
-Water Buffalo
-Utah
-Ratchet
-and Olives!

Stumped?  Stop by the Circulation Desk for a sample story today!
