Do You Like Magic? Are you interested in learning a few tricks? The Chesley Memorial Library is proud to be able to offer a special one-time Magic Class with Magician Mr. Phil! This class is only open to children ages eight and up registered in the library's Summer Reading Program and able to read.
"Mr Phil will not only be demonstrating and teaching some basic principles of magic, but giving each child magic tricks to take home, along with a booklet of instructions for further tricks they can learn on their own with the techniques he'll be teaching. Also, during the class he will be telling the children how he got started in magic, and pointing them to good books they can read to help them along if they want to learn even more. In addition to magic, he will be teaching self confidence, and techniques for picking up and carrying on in the face of failure... and the importance of practice to prevent this happening. All those skills are not only good in performing in front of an audience, but are necessary life skills, as well. Mr. Phil has an background in education, as well as training in performance arts, and he loves to pass along his knowledge. He says of his workshops that he is hoping to get his future competition started. He wouldn't mind that at all." The class is open to Summer Reading Program participants aged eight and above. Reading is a requirement for this class, so all participants must be able to read with confidence. Space is very limited for the Magic Class so early registration is required. To register or for more information please call the library at 942-5472. The class will be offered on Tuesday, August 8 at 6:00pm, at the Northwood Masonic Hall. The class is right before the library's Summer Reading Program Finale, starring Mr. Phil, and all of the class participants will have the opportunity to perform WITH Mr. Phil in the show! |
