Minutes of January 14, 2010

The meeting was called to order at 7:20 pm.

Jim Vaillancourt, Ken Curley, Lucy Edwards and Doug Chamberlin were present.

Ken Curley motioned and Lucy Edwards seconded a motion to approve the minutes of the Dec. 10th meeting, taken by Margaret Walker.  The minutes were approved unanimously.

The main focus of the meeting was on the warrant article for the scales to weigh the construction debris, the fees for which are currently being estimated by cubic footage.  After much discussion of possible wording, the status of the funds in the expendable trust, and the payment for the compactor, it was determined that the best approach for this year is to ask for an article to put $15000 in the
grant match expendable trust to use as the match should we succeed in getting a grant for $15000.  The total cost of the scales is around $30,000, although Steve Preston thinks we might be able to get them for a bit less.  If the warrant article is defeated or the grant does not come through, it might be possible next year to do an article approving a lease/purchase for the scales funded out of the expendable trust.

Jim Vaillancourt also noted that the compost pile has manure in it and any drainage may have e coli contamination which could be impacting water bodies.  The committee agreed to discuss this issue at the next meeting.

Jim is also concerned that the recycled oil being dropped off is not in secure containers.  He is afraid that the milk bottles being used could spill if knocked over or could be easily punctured if kicked by mistake.

Ken Curley motioned that we make recommendation that that the transfer station supervisor purchase some sort of container to put the plastic bottles in until it can be stored at the end of the day.
Jim Vaillancourt seconded the motion and it was approved unanimously.

The next meeting will be Thursday Feb. 4th at 7 pm at the town hall.
The meeting adjourned at 8:25 pm.

Respectfully submitted,
 Lucy Edwards, Secretary
