Minutes of January 5, 2010

The meeting was called to order by Chairman Renee Camille at 7:08 pm.

Present were Renee and Ken Camille, Ken Curley. Peter Blinn and Cable Coordinator Gary Garnett.

Minutes of the December 1st meeting were corrected.  Under “REPORTS Cable Coordinator, Burtt Interview”  last sentence “Mr. Garnett said will’ changed to “Mr. Garnett said he will”   Also “Ms. Camille’ changed to “Mrs. Camille”. The minutes were approved as corrected.

REPORTS -

Board of Selectmen liaison – No report

Lake Region Public Access – Mr. Curley said he was not able to attend the Board of Directors and had planned to attend the Children’s Auction. He took a vacation day to attend but did not due to the bad driving conditions caused by the snowstorm.

Cable Coordinator –

Burtt Interview - Mr. Garnett handed out copies of the interview on DVD and told the committee that the production of the Discovery Day video should be finished by the next meeting.

School Board meeting sound quality – Mr. Garnett said during the last School Board meeting he received a request to remove one of the microphones. The microphone was picking up conversations which one of the School Board members did not wish to be broadcast was the reason given for removing it. Mr. Garnett said at the next School Board meeting he is going to turn up the other microphones to compensate during main discussions. Mr. Curley asked about the need to adjust the volume.  Mr. Garnett answered removing the microphone and not adjusting the volume would degrade the sound quality when the meeting is broadcast. He went on to say that he had in the past received complaints about the sound quality and is using multiple microphones during the taping of the meeting to address the issue. He wanted to insure that he was producing a quality product for broadcasting. After a lengthy discussion it was decided to place a disclaimer at the beginning and end of the broadcast stating the reason why there may be degradation in sound quality.  Mr. Curley and Mr. Garnett agreed to come up with the text of the disclaimer.

OLD BUSINESS   -

Video Workshop – Mr. Garnett said he would like to hold the next workshop at Town Hall so he could use the production system to train people. He will check with the Town Administrator and Recreation Director about scheduling the workshop.

School Board Meeting (taping & training) - Mr. Garnett stated that he told the Chairman of the School Board, Colleen Pingree that he would no longer be videotaping the School Board meetings. Mr. Curley said he received an email from the School Board Chairman explaining that there is no money in the school budget to pay for someone to tape the meetings. The email went on to ask if Gary could continue taping the meetings.  Mr. Curley said he discussed it with Town Administrator and they both agreed that the cost for public access taping should come from subscriber fees. Gary will continue taping the meetings. Mr. Curley said he also discussed with the Town Administrator setting up a way to pay from the trust fund for some one to fill in for Gary if he is not available to tape a school board meeting.

Cable Contract Renewal – Chairman Camille stated this will be discussed at the March meeting.

NEW BUSINESS

Volunteers – The committee discussed different ways of recruiting volunteers.

Next meeting is scheduled for 7pm February 2, 2010 at the Community Center.

Meeting adjourned at 8:14pm.

Respectfully submitted,
  Ken Curley
