Minutes of November 10, 2009

The Library was unavailable for the October meeting. The meeting was cancelled.

The Town Hall was unavailable for 11/10. The meeting venue was changed to the Community Center.

The meeting was called to order by Chairman Renee Camille at 7:00 pm.

Present were members Renee and Ken Camille, Pat Adams and Ken Curley. Peter Blinn was also in attendance.

Minutes of the September 1st meeting were approved as written.

REPORTS  -

Board of Selectmen liaison – The Selectman’s representative was not present.

Lake Region Public Access – Mr. Curley said he attended the LRPA Board of Directors meeting in October. The board discussed the 2009-2010 budget. The fees charged to Towns for LRPA’s service will be discussed and set at the next meeting.

Cable Coordinator – The Coordinator, Gary Garnett was not present, he was at Town Hall taping the Board of Selectmen meeting.

OLD BUSINESS -

Video Workshop - Mr. Curley said he attended the workshop. There were 4 participants, 2 of them brought a camera and a laptop. Gary showed them how to download and edit scenes to produce a movie using the software which came with the camera. One of the attendees, Peter Blinn said he has experience in producing shows for public access TV and was interested in becoming a member of the committee.  Mr. Curley said he would keep him posted on when and where the next meeting was being held. Mr. Curley summed it up by saying that the workshop was a success and Mr. Garnett should contact the Librarian and the Recreation Director to schedule another workshop.

Streaming Video – Ms. Camille said she does not think Gary has talked with the Technology Committee about streaming meeting videos on the website.

Discovery Day / Burtt interview – Ms. Camille said she had talked with Gary, he told her that equipment problems were delaying the editing of the Discovery Day / Burtt Interview tape.

Cable Contract Renewal – Mr. Curley said that even though the current contract doesn’t expire until the end of 2011, in the coming year the committee should go over it and identify possible changes for the next contract.  The committee should think about how providing public access to Northwood subscribers will change over the next ten years. Will we need a live feed?  Do we need to expand local event coverage?  Mr. Curley said that he will get copies of the contract to committee members, so that they can begin reviewing it after Town Meeting in March.

NEW BUSINESS -

New member – Mr. Curley made a motion that the committee recommend to the Selectmen to make Peter Blinn a member of the Northwood Cable Advisory Committee. Second by Ms. Camille.  Motion passed unanimously.

Ways to include people – Ms. Camille said that Mr. Garnett is still planning on involving the students in producing videos. The committee discussed other ways to get people involved. They included:
Have a field trip to the LRPA studios in Laconia.
Hold workshops training people on the video production systems.
Place a flyer advertising the next video workshop on the CBNA bulletin board.

Community Center – Ms. Camille said she was thankful that Stephen Bailey took time to open the building for this meeting and if there is another scheduling conflict we should consider this as an alternate meeting site.  Mr. Curley stated scheduling meetings at the Town Hall is typically difficult this time of year. The committee might want to look into meeting at the Community Center for the next couple months until after Town Meeting.  Ms. Camille said she will contact to Mr. Bailey about our meeting schedule.

Next meeting is tentatively scheduled for Dec. 1st at 7pm at the Community Center.

Meeting adjourned at 8:02pm.

Respectfully submitted,
  Ken Curley
