Minutes of 08/19/09

The meeting was called to order at 7pm by the Bill Tappan, chairman.

Roll call was taken and the attendees were Kevin Ash, Bob Holden, Ken Curley, Bob Young, and Bill Tappan.

The minutes from the prior meeting were reviewed and accepted.

Kevin Ash then discussed the results of the website survey that was done.  At that point he had spoken with 3 departments and still needs follow up from others.  Kevin then gave the group a mock-up of the town’s website for review.

Bob Young then discussed the emergency communications challenges and suggested that we have representatives from emergency services organizations in town (police and fire) come and speak with the committee regarding their perspectives on the topic.  Mr. Young also raised the issue of a low power AM radio station and noted that it would cost around $35,000.  Ken Curley mentioned that a low power FM radio license may be a consideration and may be a much less expensive solution for local communications for emergency.  The impetus for the radio idea was the communications problems / limitations experienced last year during the ice storm. It was also suggested that there may be FEMA or grant money available to fund the idea.

The miscellaneous topic raised by one committee member to have the school technology director either be made a committee member or to speak with the school board about his membership be made a formal part of the job description.  Bill Tappan is to check on this.

The meeting was adjourned at 8pm.

Respectfully Submitted,
   Bill Tappan
