Minutes of 6/08/09 Approved 7/06/09
The committee met outside the town hall because there was no one to let us in. Present were Jim Vaillancourt, Ken Curley, Doug Chamberlin, Lucy Edwards and Margaret Walker. The minutes for the April and May meetings (produced by Margaret Walker, and noting that that meeting took place outside the town hall as well, with the addition of black flies) were approved. Ben Edwards submitted a letter of resignation from the committee which was accepted with regret. It was requested that he send an e-mail to the town administrator informing him and the board of selectmen of his resignation. Jim Vaillancourt had sent a letter to the selectmen after the last meeting and did meet with them to discuss getting into town hall for the meetings, the role of the liaison from the selectmen, the proposed newsletter and the changes to the brochure. They also discussed two options for the composition of the committee, either a 7 member group or a 5 member group with alternates. The committee decided to go with the 5 member group with alternates. We will ask the selectmen to appoint Ken Curley as a member and will look for 2 alternate members as well. The selectmen were supportive of the idea of a newsletter and asked that drafts be sent to them as the committee proceeds. After much discussion the committee agreed to hold the tool swap on August 1st, with notice to be given in The Suncook Sun, The Forum, perhaps handouts at the transfer station, and any other ideas we can come up with for free publicity starting July. 15th. The committee will also take the non-profit table at the Farmers Market on July. 23rd. The cash receipts project for keeping records of items that have a fee to recycle has not yet been finalized between Steve Preston and the town hall. Doug Chamberlin volunteered to help Jim Vaillancourt reformat the brochure with the transfer station rules and the map, including adding information about the Swap Shop. There have been some proposals for changes to the transfer station hours from Steve Preston and from members of the board of selectmen. The committee does not feel we have enough data to evaluate the proposed changes. We will attempt to do a survey on the website or do some interviewing at the transfer station to see if we can get a feel for what changes are wanted and/or needed. One idea was to find hours that would work year round so there wouldn’t be the confusion when the changes occur in spring and fall. Margaret Walker will see if we can get the meeting room at the Library for our next meeting on July 6th. The meeting adjourned at 8:15. Respectfully submitted by Lucy Edwards |
